Discussing Questions And Answers About Credit Repair Letters

William asks…

Credit repair through real estate agent?

The realtor(or realtist according to his business card) we are working with in buying a house offered us a plan to improve our credit so that we can get the best rates possible. My husband is all for it but I am a little hesitant since we dishing out $750 for a start up fee and $250 monthly for his assistant to call, write personal credit letters, one on one coaching, among other things to get us both at a 650. I am concerned since this is alot of money and I looked on the BBB website and cannot find this credit management group or even her real estate agency in its reports. How do I tell this is a legit operation and not just someone trying to scam a young couple out of a few thousand dollars.

Stan answers:

Сredit repair workеd fine to fix my credit. They disputed and removed lots of bad items from my credit report. I used this service – buildcredit.ifastnet.com

Steven asks…

how do I go about writing a letter to repair damage I ve done to someone else’s credit?

I was paying on my son’s car loan since he didnt want the car anymore. It was late several times and I paid the late charges. Now, I want to have the negative marks taken off his credit due to my bad situations. How do I go about this?

Stan answers:

It would be a complete waste of time. The loan was in your son’s name and he was responsible for it. The late payments will remain and just have to age off his credit.

Lisa asks…

credit repair questions?

hey all,
We are trying to repair our credit for many years now. from our experience we have been sent letters back from credit companies telling us that our credit on there is valid and that they will not be changing it. My understanding is that they have to provide proof of this and yet that havnt. What is the best way of action to get these 3 companies to start removing items and what is the best site out there that provides me with all three credit reports all in one for free? Also please provide me with a couple of sites that explain in detail in help regarding steps to do and sample letters that are current that i may use to get my point across.
thank you kindly
please provide actual answers or i will delete the question and then no one gets any points even for just posting. Why is it that i get dumb dumb answers that are evident. The point of questions on Yahoo answers is to get info based on your question not just to post idiotic posts.
thank you
as well annualcredit costs money with alot of there services. And please dont provide the common answers that they can only keep info on there for 7 years we know this everyone knows this. The problem is obvious “removing this stuff” if you dont have experience in this please dont answer as you will not get points anyway. Sorry to all those that do care about answering but you have to understand my frustration with alot of kids answering on here or people that just are answering on common things they have heard.
thanks again

Stan answers:

I understand your frustrations on here. And believe it or not, many of the answerers ‘do not’ know that they can only report credit/loan debt for 7 years. Yet they answer anyway.

If you are wanting a 3in1 report for free – they do not come free, plus the 3in1′s are not always accurate themselves.
The best place to get your free reports is from the government FACT-ACT site www.annualcreditreport.com (as some of the others mention)
The government considers any other (so called) free report sites nothing but scam sites.
You can get your reports for free, but you cannot get your scores for free from anywhere.

But, using a free report could work against you, unless you got the free report from being denied credit.

As long as the credit bureaus are reporting inaccurately, you can dispute the inaccuracies. If you use the free reports to dispute from that will give them an extra 15 days to investigate (45 days). Which could mean the difference in an inaccurate tradeline remaining instead of being deleted. If you dispute with a paid report (or a free denial report) from each bureau they have 30 days to investigate.
(even “how” you dispute can be a factor in it remaining or being deleted)

The question you had asked is rather broad.
Alot of how you deal with the baddies on your report depends on a few factors, such as – if you are dealing with the original creditor or a collection agency and if what is reported is accurate or not.
Or if the accounts that are reported are even yours or not.

How you deal with the companies depends on if you are dealing with the original creditor or a collection agency.

When you request debt “validation” from a collection agency, they “must” provide it. If you had requested validation within the first 30 days after they first contacted you, they “must” halt “all” collection on the account until they provide validation.
If the collection agency had place the account on your reports before giving you time to dispute or request validation from them first, within the first 30 days, that is a violation.

If you are dealing with an original creditor, they must provide “verification” of the debt

I have been to quite a few do it yourself credit repair sites on the web and while some are pretty bad, there are a few good sites. Never pay a site for info that you can get for free.

You might check out the site I’ve listed. Do some reading in the Newbie Forum first and then in the Credit Forum.

It is a totally free site and has a very large database of legal information and letters to draw from. Plus there are many members on there that can help answer or explain any questions you may have. Quite a few of the members have been, or are now in the same boat you are in.
Many of the members who ‘have’ been in that shape have stayed around to help the newer people. And, there are quite a few members that are constently reading through the FTC, FTC opinion letters, FCRA, FDCPA and state statutes to find anything that may help others.

Mark asks…

How long does it take to repair your credit?

I have begun repairing my credit. I’ve contacted collection agencies to make settlement agreements and everything but I haven’t heard from them and it has been 2 or 3 weeks since i sent out the first letter. I need to raise my score that depleted during my divorce. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

Stan answers:

It could take up to a month for them to respond. Also if you did not do a pay for delete then it will be another 7 years for the negs to fall if you pay them. You score will start to rise after two years though. Best advice would be to dispute the neg. On your credit report before you pay them. Unless they are going to sue you. Otherwise you are just resetting the deliquency date. You can visit creditboards.com for info and sample letters on how to dispute. Also make sure you don’t miss and future payments on credit cards. And open some new accounts if you dont have any revolving credit accounts so you can start building a new and positive credit history. They have credit card just for people like you. YOu can comp;are the rates and fees and apply online at http://creditcardwarehouseonline.com or http://creditcardwarehouse.ecreditdirectory.com/

Richard asks…

What’s the best and fastest way to increase credit fico scores?

wondering if old charge offs ‘fall-off’ your credit report after 7 years? 10 years? Do any of those credit repair services work? Heard about writing letters to creditors and if they do not respond in 30 days, the item must be erased from report–true?

Stan answers:

Credit history is reported on you FICO for seven years. After that, credit card companies (and mortgage firms, etc) do not have access to that information.

Bankruptcies may last up to 10 years before falling off the grid. (Depends on state law)

As for the best way to improve your FICO:
1. Steady payment history is the best — pay your current bills on time (do NOT let past bad performance discourage you from not paying your bills now!)

2. Take care of unresolved debts (if you have been contacted by a debt collector, try to work something out with them; otherwise contact the company — the goal is to have the old debt listed as “paid in full”, which is much better than “settled”)

3. Make sure that your credit cards are not maxed out (FICO looks at the ratio of open credit to used credit — too little open credit hurts you)

4. Make sure that you do not have too many lines of credit (if you can pay off and close some credit cards, that is good. As to which ones, it depends on interest rates — get rid of high interest cards — and payment history — keep the cards with the longest GOOD payment history)

5. Yes, there is a time limit in which a creditor must respond to you if you dispute a charge or a debt amount (I can not remember if it is 30 or 60 days, but that should be easily found on the internet)

6. Be careful of debt consolidation services — most are rip offs. Some are good. Check with the better business bureau.

7. Remember that one payment towards an old debt is a REAFFIRMATION that you are responsible for that debt.

That’s all I have. Sorry, not a professional. :)

David asks…

Is this a good answer to the Mormon question that was probably removed by Mormons?

No, intelligence has nothing to do with one’s subjectivity to being brainwashed. If you understood Mormons’ situations better you would see why they go along with the belief system even to the point of self hypnosis to try to convince selves to hang in there and try to make the best of it.
Mormons are conditioned into Mormonism as of birth. They are kept in a fairly controlled environment where they know no other way to survive. As they get old enough to pass certain tests in life, they are posed with certain counteracting subtle threats by their church.
Teens are not able to leave home. They know they will lose family acceptance and friends if they leave Mormonism. Young adults capable of moving and making new friends know they will lose support from parents to go to college and would be presented with a new and frightening world to adapt to (all alone) that they know nothing about. Young parents need as much help as they can get for child support, money and stability and do not stray so as to keep from being thrown into chaos while they have kids. Older parents have accumulated a lot of debt and have professional connections and networking entrenched with other Mormons to the extent that leaving their church would be like trying to transplant a vital organ. Due to debt and such problems, they risk losing inheritances from the next older generation if they leave before their parents die. But by the time they themselves are at their oldest, they are so conditioned to the LDS church that they cannot leave the comfort zone of this zombie life even if they wanted to-it is like addiction at that point of long term conditioning.

So you see, the cycle repeats itself and in each phase of development of an individual’s capability of freely leaving, the LDS structure has a carefully plotted counteraction ready to head off the would-be apostate.

Stan answers:

Yes and absolutely these type of cycles exist. Deep rooted in to the religion and other religions as well. I myself found myself at the age of college. When leaving the church and finding new friends was about the easiest step I could find. But behold when I told my parents I no longer believed. They kept helping me with college and at the same time kept trying to pull me back into the church. When I became an apostate towards them they tried to see if stopping the support they gave me would entice me to come back to the church. But they warned me they might have to stop supporting and I prepared myself for it. I finished college on my own. Though finishing college doesn’t make you completely independent I found myself after college with out a job in the clutches of the IT boom collapse and the recession we were in when Bush Jr. Took office. I felt enticed to move back home to Utah and try it getting a job. Thankfully, after enough determination and job hunting I scored an entry level job at IBM in Boulder Colorado.. Thank god I loved College there and loved Colorado attitude much more than salt lake city. I was about 2 weeks away from moving back to salt lake city and seeking support and even toying with the idea of going back to church. Knowing I had to show my commitment to the church to have a better edge when looking for Jobs in Salt Lake City. It isn’t definitive but a good Mormon background helps with the job search there. But I didn’t. Now I’ve been with the girl of my dreams for 7 years. Somehow in the disgruntlement of religion and LDS family. I decided I didn’t want children. And keep in mind knowing that I didn’t have the support of my family in having a child out of wedlock and having a liv’in girlfriend out of wedlock I wasn’t scoring any points with my parents. By common law we are married these days. But only for the financial benefits. We both see the institute of marriage to be very counter productive in a relationship. We are together now and probably will be forever.. No kids. Too smart for heaven’s sake. My wife and I are DINKs… Duel Income No Kids.. And loving life. … I’ve worked hard at my career and my relationships. And I’m more blessed than any of my family or friends are back home that are in the trenches of that religion. I don’t consider it blessed. But I do consider it my hard work and fortitude which can in part be attributed to the LDS religion as they are very hard working individuals for the most part. And any inheritance that would have been coming to me.. I don’t need it.. I learned to live on my own and learned that Knowledge beats Faith and religion to the bloody pulp.

Susan asks…

cash back deal on mobiles?

I took a cash back contract out on my mobile and interestingly the retailer went into administration now i am stuck with a contract that i cant afford the only reason i took it out was because it was a cash back deal i have started receiving letters form the debt collection agency and i have rang the mobile network providers and they keep saying i have signed a contact so therefor i have to pay i have explained the situation to them but they keep saying i have to pay and i think it is extremely unfair. They should be chasing the retailer rather than the innocent people who fall into this cash back con what can i do i am really stressed out over this please please help.
Many thanks

Stan answers:

Visit the c.a.b , but you will be stuck with it and unfortunately as you have signed a contract you will be hounded. You could ask for a settlement fee which will work out more expensive. Just like the rest of us , its a lesson on not to take out contracts. If you were declared bankrupt you would get out of it depending on your income.

Charles asks…

financial aid question?

I’m really in some hot water here, or so I think. I filled out my Fafsa saying I’d be attending school full time. Unfortunately I had one online class that I was dropped from because I never recieved the network key or start date in the mail… I made the mistake of assuming the class started later. I was dropped from the class, making me a part-time student and as far as I understand I was not able to use my fafsa money to pay tuition. My parents literally have no money to spare so I have been trying to pay off my Fall 06 semester with tiny checks and a minimum wage job. I need this debt payed off, and soon. I was wondering if it would be best to re-apply for the fafsa as a part time student, or if I should just modify my existing Fafsa. (can you do that?) ANY and all help is welcome. I’ve got only a slight clue at what I’m doing, my parents are intimidated by this stuff and choose not to try and help, and my school is not too keen on answering my e-mails

Stan answers:

As an insider, I have to tell you that it doesn’t matter what you put on your FAFSA in terms of attendence. It’s up to your school to determine whether or not you are full or part time and award aid appropriately.

In this specific case, you need to talk to your school’s aid office to discuss your options. Changing your FAFSA won’t do a thing.

Mandy asks…

Super Bowl Commercial?

When i was watching the super bowl, there was an ad that ran about america’s debt. It seemed very poorly created and didn’t seem like a $2.5 million dollar commercial at all. It ran in the 3rd quarter and actually ran twice….it ran, then a different ran (dont remember it because we were still trying to dissect the original weird one), and then it ran again followed by a local affiliate weatherguy id. I was under the impression that local affiliates couldn’t stick commercials into the network‘s programming. can someone help me out?

Stan answers:

Hmmmm not sure. Most of the commercials weren’t good this year anyways. Doritios were pretty good though. Dog collar was my favorite.

Linda asks…

Maryland law issue need help?

Long question but want to give as much info as I can-so back in Jan. cut my finger. Had to go to ortho surgeon out of network on my ins. Signed waiver that I’d give them any checks I got form insurance. Gave 2 totaling $2500. In May they sent me a nasty statement billing for the remainder so I called and told them the truth–I hadn’t gotten another check. They told me on the phone they were sorry, I shouldn’t have been billed and they’d write off the remaineder.

2 days later a check for 5 grand showed up. I held it in my bank for 3 weeks, presumably waiting for any further bill from the surgeon’s office. Since I didn’t get one I put the money toward bills.

Yesterday I received notice that I missed 2 certified letters from District Court. They’re suing me for breach of contract.

I can pay the debt, about 100 bucks a month. Beyond calling the surgeon’s office to work it out do I have any other recourse?
Just to be 100% accurate, I only used that money under the belief that a verbal agreement was in place to write off the remainder of the balance. I thought themoney was reimbursement from insurance of what I would’ve paid out of pocket, like AFLAC.
I am going to call and try to rectify this situation. I feel terrible about it but it’s a mistake and we are all HUMAN with FEELINGS so I appreciate you people NOT putting me on trial. I didn’t say I should get away with it. I can handle going to court.

Stan answers:

You are stuck. It doesn’t matter that there was a verbal agreement at all. The verbal agreement won’t hold up because it doesn’t stand up to the Statute of Frauds. I suggest you pay up.

Discussing Questions And Answers About Debt Help And Beyond

Laura asks…

How do I tell my husband how we are really in debt? I let it get beyond our means.?

I am the mother of a now 8 year old beautiful little girl. When my daughter was 16 months old she became very sick. Doctors thought it was the flu, however a few days later we ended up @ the hospital because she was unresponsive. She was in a diabetic coma. Well needless to say this kept me a stay at home mom taking great care of my daughter. My husband is the love of my life. He is a fire fighter full time and on his days off he works for a lanndscaping company. For the last 16 years he also pays 200.oo dollars a week for child support. His daughter turns 18 next yeear and has aready pursued her career as a cosmotolgist with a trade school. hwave done day care out of my house to help pay for my daughter’s education and to help out with the bills, in the last 6 yrs. we have accumulated 25,000.00 in credit card debt. I never have used it for extravagances, just to use in home emergancies..and the oil and cost of living expenses.. My husbannd does not know how bad it is, because I am afraid of being blamed for everything.. I am the only one out of my family who managesmy daughter’s diabete’s, so I am at a loss for ….I don’t know… I don’t want to declare bankruptacy, that is not an option… we have never been late on our mortgage payment. we love our home. I am making myself so sick over this that it has effected my health, I vomit all the time due to stress.. I don’t want my daughter to wittness this..What can I do? I was involved w/ a debt settlement program, which made it worse…..

Stan answers:

I don’t think your husband has ever put out a fire this big before. You might want to tell him before the fire spreads wider. From now on, let him handle everything. I can’t see him spreading the fire any worse.

Carol asks…

what other than the debt ceiling is holding up the budget?

the congress has already agreed to raise the debt ceiling if they can lower spending to help to be able to not have this again next year? why is the media and even the people on here so fixated on the debt ceiling that they do not look beyond that to see what the real issues are?
david it is because they spent money we do not have and cannot come up with. get the picture here momma and daddy do not have the money for new toys for you.

Stan answers:

The debt ceiling has very little to do with the budget. It has a great deal to do with the government being able to pay it’s bills. Over 40 cents of every dollar the government spends right now is debt.

Betty asks…

Considering the ALMIGHTY $ is becoming………?

extinct, (.60) on the dollar right now. Does it make since (cents)
for the President Of the United States to say that, for this tax year that taxpayers will recieve an extra amount of return($800.00 or so), so they can spend it at the stores to help with the oncoming/already recession that he contributed to?

If your debt has skyrockted beyond your control, and you get some x-tra money to buy items you don’t need, and your money value is declining, how is this suppose to help you (the economy) out of debt?
Is this still some more double talking/contradictory statement making/talking out the side of his neck/speaking with a forked tongued dialogue. Is this suppose to be for those people that will say, “Oh he left office on a good note by giving us extra money for our tax period.” WHERE did this extra money come from, when we are in a $150 billion debt?
pow*******

Stan answers:

Well.. The way you spend the money is entirely up to you.
What I think would be great is if every American got out of his/her own personal debt. Then the loan sharks will not multiply like rats, and the economy will get a boost… Really.
Think about it… Darn! I feel like I am preaching the Utopia book all over again.
As far as what Bush does these days… I think he’s sorting it out and making sure he delivers what he promised. He delivered so much stuff that he didn’t have to, but our beloved Bill left a mess for him to clear up just as well.
So it’s like, you make the best with what you’ve got.
Frankly, we’ve developed a very critical eye, but if we were to do that job… I don’t know how many people will do better, given the circumstances.
And with that said…. I think the problem with our presidents nowadays is that we’re choosing them out of the ‘elite’ people of the country. What’s wrong with another commoner to get up there and set the record straight? I think he/she will have a fresh approach and a different perspective. That is, if the bigwigs will not corrupt him/her by the end of the race.
On that same note… If you use the extra cash to cover some of your personal debt, it doesn’t matter what the president does, does it?
And c’mon, 10 percent is good enough for God, why not for the government? What we need to do is limit the federal govt. Control not allow it to penetrate all aspects of our life. If you ever had to deal with any govt. Agency, you know what I mean. Who wants more of that??
Centralyzed everything…. That’s what socialists do, and that’s a sure way to dictatorship. I happen to know more about the communism than the Average American. Been there.

William asks…

If you’re making payments on a debt, can the debt still affect your credit negatively?

For reasons beyond my control, I’ve got a medical debt of $20,000, and as a student, no way of paying the lump sum (and no help from family is available since we are all below the poverty line in terms of income). If I start to make monthly payments on this debt, will it still negatively affect my credit?

Stan answers:

3credscores.xp3.biz – use this service to predict how your credit score would change in future for various procedures of these payments.

Charles asks…

When you have a business proposal but no money what to do?

I need a loan but have poor credit, I need funding but don’t know where to go, I live on my own and I want to save money fast to move to Georgia from New Jersey and the only way to do that is to stop paying on existing bills and then that will put me in further debt so my hands are beyond tied. No one wants to help me out on my business adventure and I really want to get this started as of Jan. 2009 any ideas.

Stan answers:

Please be careful about taking a loan out from a non bank. Why not try for a grant?

UK telephone numbers start with +44 so be careful with some of the answers you have been given.
